3 mistakes most brands still make on TikTok

And these are easier to fix than a clogged sink

Welcome to March edition of TikTalk for Business. Thinking about re-branding to TikTok Thursdays, thoughts?

While many of us are busy filing taxes, the last two weeks have been crazy for me. I recently hit 250K followers on Instagram as well. Thank for the continuous support! 🙌 It’s the only fuel I need to keep going!

Now, let’s discuss three common mistakes most brands are still making on TikTok!

#1 Just talking and not showing

Most brands talk about what their product can do or the problems it can solve. For example Monday.com talk about the cool things you can do with its platform. The Problem: Too abstract, immediate swipe to the next videoThe Solution: Don’t tell but show what your product can do Here’s an example of a video I created showing what DesignStripe can do vs speaking about it. The video went super viralProTip: Try to identify a specific scenario where your product can help its users and create content around it. Think about Jobs To Be Done framework

#2 Pinned Video

It’s the most common pitfall among brands and creators. But I don’t blame you as it makes the most sense intuitively. Most accounts pin their most viral video assuming it will attract more followers or show credibility. Most people watch pinned videos when they check out your profile. It is your opportunity to turn them into leads for your businessThe Problem: People don’t know what to do after watching your pinned video. The Solution: Pinned video should be your sales video to convert traffic to your website. It should have a call to action to your websiteFor example, I help my followers find tools and resources to enhance their skills and productivity in their professional careers. My pinned video highlights my recently launched website that provides easy access to these resources.

It is not my most viral video by any stretch, but it brings a lot of traffic to my website now

#3 Using Hard CTAs

Never ask people to visit your website directly. There’s no link to click so that CTA is just salesy with poor user experience and immediate turn off. (exceptions for ads where you can links)The Problem: There’s no link to click so that CTA is just salesy with poor user experience and immediate turn off. The Solution: Soft CTAs like - watch my video on X if you like this. Now, you can generate more views on other videos. As a bonus, more eyes on your pinned video👀

ProTip: Don’t even mention the website, if people like the value you’re adding, they will ask for the website in the comments. And you get extra engagement. Double the win!
