Does the followers count matter on Tiktok?
And which metrics to measure on TikTok
Hello !If you don’t know me, I am a PM turned creator with 350k+ followers on TikTok and recently broke 100k on Instagram. My team and I also organically grow accounts for tech companies like Zapier, Jotform, etc! Almost every week I write about how to leverage TikTok/Reels to grow your company or personal brand :)I couldn’t write these past couple of weeks as I was busy setting up my TikTok Ads agency. Stay tuned for more deets :) Alright, let’s dive right in
So does the followers size matter on Tiktok?
Short answer is no but the long answer is it depends! Sorry, there’s no absolute answer.

So Why No?
TikTok is a discovery platform and increasingly being used as a search engine. Everyone loves TikTok because you can still go uber viral even if you don’t have any followers. The infamous FYP shows you the video based on interests and not necessarily the people you follow. Once you post, the video is shown to an inital batch of users. The initial batch is picked by Tiktok based on the hasthags and keywords used in your content. If they engage with the content, TikTok will show the video to bigger group with similar interests and so on. So basically engaging content will be pushed to virality and not so interesting will be buried forever irrespective of number of people who follow you.
So When followers matter?
Earlier I mentioned that your content is shown to an initial batch of users. The size of this initial batch of users is not the same for everyone. As I’ve grown my account 0 to 350k+ followers, I’ve noticed that the number of people who see my video in the first few minutes has increased as I’ve grown my followers. Once you start growing, TikTok trusts your content more and is willing to show it to a larger pool of people. With the people who follow you, it is also easier for the algorithm to determine which users will find it interesting. Having a larger initial batch does not mean you will go viral but it increases your average views.Bottom line: If your content is stellar, you will go viral. Having a big followers just increases your chances of going viral :) Now the question is what should be measured?
What to measure?
I personally like to measure Likes! There’s a reason why TikTok highlights likes on a profile alongside followers. Number of followers give you a perception of how much people value your channel but number of likes shows how much people value the content.

TikTok just increased the Caption character limit AGAIN and this time it’s going to be 2,200 characters. TikTok SEO anyone 👀
TikTok wants you to express yourself using Photo Mode. But what does that mean? I am still forming an opinion but will report back on this.
